The fully automatic machine offers a simple and quick way at home to make reproducible drinks at the touch of a button with fresh beans and sometimes even foamed milk.
The settings and options vary depending on the device, but we would like to give you general tips here on how to set up a household automatic machine step-by-step if we don’t know the device exactly.

The respective setting options can be found in the operating instructions and differ depending on the manufacturer.

step 1

Define drink and water volume

We start with the fully automatic machine by deciding on our target drink. Do we mainly want to drink espresso or café crème?
Most fully automatic machines for the home are equipped with only one grinder, which is why we ideally focus on one drink when setting it up.
So we set the water volume according to the manufacturer’s instructions. We have listed the appropriate milliliters for you above.

step 2

first grind setting adjustment

With most fully automatic machines, we set the grinding degree to a fine level before the first drink, or in the case of an espresso even to the finest level.

Attention: If we set the grinding degree finer, we make sure that the grinder is free of ground material and that there are no beans in the container.

step 3

brew and adjust

Now we start drawing our drink, stopping the time from the beginning of the brewing to the end and making a note of it. This will give us a good guideline for setting up later.

Now let’s try our coffee.

step 4

Check brew time

How long was your brew time?
We aim for a brew time of 25-30 seconds for many coffees.

Was your brewing time shorter? Then you can set a finer grind. If the brewing time is longer than 30 seconds, you can set a coarser grind.

Brew another cup until you reach a brewing time of 25 – 30 seconds and the grind is right.

step 5

Kaffeegeschmack

Now comes the most important step:

How does the coffee taste?
You can turn the following screws depending on your palate:

Coffee is too acidic
Increase the water temperature / decrease the degree of grinding

Coffee is too bitter
Decrease water temperature / increase degree of grinding

Coffee is not strong enough
Increase the amount of coffee / reduce the water volume / finer the grind

We’ll now make any necessary adjustments and brew another cup until we’re satisfied with the result.
